Why is concrete divided into strength grades?

First of all, we should know what concrete strength grades are.
Concrete strength grades are artificially divided according to the compressive strength value of concrete cubes, which is the characteristic strength of concrete. According to the current relevant standards and specifications, the compressive strength of concrete cubes is the compressive strength of concrete cubes measured by standard test methods in a standard curing room with a temperature of 20±2℃ and a humidity of more than 95% consistent with the ISO test method, and cured to 28 days.

According to the provisions of relevant standards, the strength grade of building materials should be expressed by the name of the material plus its standard strength value. Therefore, the concrete strength grade is divided into C10, C15, C20, C25, C30, C35, C40, C45, C50, C55, C60, C65, C70, C75, C80 with the symbol C (abbreviation of Concrete in English) and the standard value of the cube compressive strength behind it. Because the loads on concrete in different parts of a general project are different, some are large, some are small, and it is not possible to use only one strength grade of concrete. For parts that bear large pressure, high-strength concrete should be used, and for parts that bear small pressure, low-strength concrete should be used. Therefore, concrete is divided into different strength grades to meet the needs of different projects and is selected through design calculations.
