Types of Building reinforcement fiber



The types of building reinforcement fibers mainly include high-strength and high modulus PVA fibers, steel fibers, asbestos fibers, glass fibers, polyacrylonitrile fibers, polyvinyl alcohol fibers, polypropylene fibers, etc. ‌

PVA fiber
High strength and high modulus PVA fiber is an environmentally friendly cement reinforcement material. Due to its unique molecular structure, it has good affinity with cement, as well as good alkali and climate resistance. Adding PVA fibers to cement concrete or mortar can effectively control cracks caused by plastic shrinkage and temperature changes, prevent and suppress the formation and development of cracks, improve the bending strength, impact strength, and crack resistance of concrete, and effectively improve the impermeability, impact resistance, and seismic resistance of concrete. ‌

Steel fiber
Steel fiber began research on the theory and application of "steel fiber reinforced concrete" in China in the 1970s, and has been widely used in various concrete projects such as roads, bridges, and tunnels since the 1980s. The successive release of industry standards such as testing methods, design and construction regulations, and "Steel Fibers for Concrete" for steel fiber reinforced concrete has promoted the application of steel fibers in various construction projects in China. ‌

Asbestos fiber
Although asbestos fibers were widely used in building materials, due to the carcinogenic hazards of asbestos dust, several developed countries have successively restricted the production and use of asbestos cement products since the early 1980s, thereby promoting the research and development of non asbestos fiber-reinforced cement products. ‌
Fiberglass was once used as a substitute for asbestos, but it was unsuccessful due to its inability to withstand the alkaline corrosion of cement hydrates and its loss of reinforcement effect. Later, through the technology of matching alkali resistant glass fiber with low alkalinity cement, the durability of "glass fiber reinforced concrete" (GRC) was improved, forming the "double insurance" GRC technology route 2 with Chinese characteristics. ‌

Polyacrylonitrile fiber
Polyacrylonitrile fibers(PAN fiber), polyvinyl alcohol fibers, and polypropylene fibers are also substitutes for asbestos free fiber reinforced cement products. These fibers are used in the construction field to enhance the performance of cement-based materials, improve their durability and strength. ‌
